There are a few things at 9,300 miles that were not on the list for the initial service, but what I would call 'major' service (valve check and change plugs) is at 18,600 miles. I am surprised at the 9,300 mile oil change interval. But it does call for it every year anyway. KTM's definition of the lifetime of their two cylinder vehicles is 80,000 km (50,000 miles) or 8 years. It's one reason 15,000 km oil change intervals are considered acceptable by them. I expect my bikes to last a lot longer, despite riding harder than average*, so choose to change oil twice as often as recommended. Have been thinking of a 790R over the 1290, which has its own heat issues. Took the dealership 790R out for two different long rides on hot days (in the high 90's) in stop and go traffic, wearing jeans with low top riding boots. Did not notice any undue heat, in fact was somewhat surprised at the lack of it. All KTM's come from the factory with Mineral Oil in them until their first service. In regards to running in its pretty much each to their own I find. Mine seen 10,000rpm a few times before the 1000km and has always lived around the 7000 area.
